Why You Should Buy a Property in Plai Laem
The coast of Plai Laem is the sandy western coast of Cape Plai Laem, with Plai Laem Beach measuring approximately 2.5 kilometers of premium sandy beach pleasure.
It has a lived-in southern half that begins right behind the Koh Fan or Fan Isle, which is where the famous Big Buddha sits along with the Big Buddha Temple it calls its home. You can see the golden silhouette of the statue from there, in fact.
The area is filled with one-story bungalows and complexes galore. It’s also filled with friendly locals such as fishermen and their families who’ve been there for generations. There are more locals there than tourists and holiday makers.
Natural Beauty and Wilderness
Plai Laem is surrounded by gorgeous nature, coral thicket borders, shallow water for waddling, and a boating canal dug for yachts and boats. That area isn’t meant for swimming, but the nearby beach is.
You can also walk around the Plai Laem sandbanks filled with black seashells and silt as well as chips of coral. The view is majestic, and the water is fine.
The beach is mostly there for exploration on top of the usual activities like beach volleyball, sandcastle building, digging, and sunbathing.
Infrastructure and Development
The main appeal of Plai Laem real estate is that you’ll get more affordable beachfront views here compared to other places in Koh Samui because it has development to spare, resulting in a bigger asset in the future.
Although it’s no metropolis full of tourists, expats, and entertainers, it’s nevertheless a big enough destination to get everything you want in terms of beachside fun and resort-like amenities from its villas.
Plai Laem in particular features Wat Plai Laem (the Buddhist Temple tourist attraction), eco-friendly villas and condos, and Mother Nature up-close and personal, such as its range of coral thickets just half a kilometer from Beach Plai Laem’s shore.
Education and Schools
The best international schools are available in Koh Samui. Plai Laem is near many primary and secondary schools as well as international schools with British or Cambridge curriculums.

Tourist Attractions and Landmarks
The Big Buddha Temple is also known as Wat Phra Yai. The Multi-Armed Buddha Temple is instead known as Wat Plai Laem, in reflection of its location. You can also find nearby the Ta Nim Magic Garden and the Grandpa and Grandma Rocks or Hin Ta Hin Yai.
In the waters, you can indulge in some water sports, but the nearby beaches offer better areas for indulging in boating, surfing, kayaking, jet skiing, scuba diving, and so forth.
You should specifically go to Thongson Beach for some above-average kayaking action. Thongson has many residential complexes to spare along with villas and condominiums that occupy the slopes of a hill on the bay’s western corner.
People
The fun-loving, chill locals of Plai Laem are more salt of the earth types if you’re not dealing with the restaurant, water sport, or beach owners. They’re true long-term inhabitants of the island known for their hospitality, simplicity, and humility.
These neighbors of yours are known for their relaxed and worry-free approach to life. The Thai are also renowned for their sense of humor and their ability to adapt to a melting pot of cultures.
Local Cuisine
More than anywhere else, Plai Laem is your surest bet in getting access to local cuisine such as Pad Thai, Thai Milk Tea, Thai Noodle Soup, and the like. Because it’s Koh Samui, you’ll also gain access to Asian fusion, seafood, Italian, and Chinese cuisine as well.
You can also find plenty of bar food and alcoholic drinks to choose from with the nearby bars and restaurants. There aren’t a lot of bars here compared to Chaweng, but Chaweng is nearby anyway if you really want to find more bars.
Cost of Living
Among the many areas of Koh Samui, the Northeastern Plai Laem with its “underdeveloped” wilderness beach gives you the most affordable cost of living. It’s the cosmopolitan Chaweng that’s more expensive due to its active nightlife and being a tourist center.
In comparison, the seclusion and peacefulness of the less developed Plai Laem will give you cheaper prices in both realty and your everyday needs.
It’s even more affordable to live in when compared to Pattaya, Phuket, or Bangkok. That goes double for anywhere in the Caribbean or most high-end beaches around the globe.
